Keep it alive?
How far should one go to keep things alive? Playing IMP’s with
neither vul, partner opens 1
and you hold the following:
J T 9 6 5
K 4
J 6
J 7 6 5
You respond 1
and partner rebids 2
, opponents silent throughout.
What is your call?
I go with the percentage action — pass. It is possible to have game.

This is a close decision. But I also vote for pass. If partner has invented a 2C bid with say xx, Axxxxx, AK, AKx, then we are in the wrong strain, but game is still very unlikely, so it makes sense to stay low with such a poor hand.

I agree with the others that pass is the right action. How about part 2 of this problem? You pass, and LHO balances 2D, which comes back around to you. What now? (To fix ideas, let us say that partner was dearler.)
