Hand Evaluation on a Big Hand Solution
I have a strong bias against bidding NT with 2-2 in the majors, but there is an exception for every rule.
This is not a 22 HCP hand. It takes almost nothing for a play at 3NT. In the actual hand, responder hand no HCP but five clubs, The
K fell singleton, so a vulnerable game was available. Several other random cards would have provided a play.
This is more like a 25-point hand.
I agree that this is a very strong hand, but opposite a bust partner you really need luck in the club suit. You will surely get a major suit lead and if you cannot run 9 tricks you are surely down. However, having said that, what are the alternatives? 2NT is the obvious one but that too will probably go down unless the clubs are kind, so since it’s teams and there is not that much difference between -2 and -3 you might as well go for it and bid 3NT. At pairs I would probably bid 2NT.
