An Instructive Bidding Problem
Vulnerable at IMP’s you hold the following:
7 6
T 9
K J T 7 6
K T 9 5.
Your partner opens 1 NT and RHO passes. Do you make a move?

I’d bid for sure–I’d just go with 3NT. I know it’s ambitious but the 5 card suit is good and the ten-nines are good. I would be tempted to do this at any form of the game but wouldn’t argue wtih a natural 2NT not vul at IMPs or a pass at matchpoints. One thing I would not do is go through Stayman to invite 3NT (if I have to do that systematically) because I don’t want to give the opponents help with their lead and defense to this one.

I mostly agree with Drew…natural 2NT if available. However, if it were not available, I would transfer to diamonds if available (planning to bid 3NT over a preaccept). If 2NT was neither a natural invite nor a transfer to diamonds, I would probably pass.

With three tens and two nines and two great suits, I think 3NT is a must when vulnerable at teams. At pairs I would probably invite. I would not dream of transferring to diamonds with just a 5-carder as 3D will be a poor contract/score if partner does not super-accept.
